Spiritual Medical Book
We are already in the forth parasha, Tazria. It begins in Leviticus 12:1-13:59. We have previously discussed the laws pertaining to clean and unclean animals. Now we are going to look at some commandments as they relate to people. When a woman has a male child, she is considered unclean for seven days after giving birth. Then she immerses herself in water and remains in an unclean state for thirty three more days. This does not mean she has sinned in some way. She is merely set apart. She cannot touch any set apart thing or come into the Set Apart Place until these days have passed. If she has a female child, she is to be set apart for fourteen days and then she does her immersion. After that, she is set apart for another sixty-six days. So you see her set apart time is much longer for a female child. The female child will shed blood in her life and is a lifegiver, so therefore the time is doubled for the mother in that circumstance. After the days were fulfilled from being unclean from giving birth, she was to bring offerings to the Temple. Remember when Miriam had Moses, she stayed secluded longer than the time you were supposed to for a male child.
She was letting people 'believe' it was a female child in order to save his life. After a time however, we know she turned him over to YHVH'S care by setting him in the basket in the river. How brave! We now get into a disease called Tazria. This is not the same as leprosy, as some think of it, although you see it called that in some translations. Nor is it like our modern day Hanson's Disease. This was a spiritual disease that manifested outwardly on the body. The sages teach the main causes of this outbreak was caused by committing the sins of bloodshed, false oaths, sexual immorality, robbery, pride, selfishness and slander. The first symptom was a white patch appearing on the skin. There are different categories of symptoms. The sages teach there were four different shades of color involved. The Priest was the only one who could look at the place on the skin and make a determination of whether it was clean or unclean. He determined if the person was to be quarantined or not. There were two main categories of Tazria, and two categories underneath them. One main category was called s'eis and was white like wool. The other was baheres and was the whiteness of snow. The other two colors were; one as the color of an egg membrane and the other the color of chalk. YHVH gave the Priest the ability to distinguish the differences. I know I couldn't have! I would be forever looking at it trying to determine if it was more the color of wool or chalk:. By the time I made a decision, he would have had time to be healed already:. It is said in commentaries, the Priest would draw a line around the area and then he could tell if the place had spread out anymore on the next inspection. That sounds like a great plan to me:. Love a person with a plan:!
Now if the person was considered to be unclean, he was removed to outside the city. If he came across any person, he was to call out unclean, unclean. Then people would know to stay away from him. Also, this disease back then would even spread to the person's belongings. Sometimes it got into their clothes. Sometimes the garment could just be washed, other times it had to be burned. It all depended on the seriousness of the case in point. If this disease was something other than spiritual, then why was the Priest the only one who could deal with it? The Priests are there to deal with spiritual matters, not physical ones. They had others appointed to deal with the physical problems. The whole idea of YHVH letting this disease break out on a person was to show that person what was happening in their life spiritually. It was to get the person to repent of what they were doing, or how they were living. That option was always open to them and then their disease could be healed and they could be declared clean again by the Priest. This is one reason you should watch what clothing you put on that belonged to someone else you don't know. It may not have the actual disease showing on it, but it could have come from a very wicked person. Do you want to buy a dress, slacks, etc. from a yard sale/used clothing store/flea market that a witch has worn while doing her incantations? How about a nice men's jacket that was worn while violating a helpless child? It really is something to think about. I go to yard sales, but I'm VERY CAREFUL about what I buy and who I buy from. I will no longer buy 'clothes' from yard sales. YHVH dealt with me on that two years ago. I ended up putting a coat in the trash I had purchased before I ever got home with it. But you have to decide on that area for yourself. I can't make that decision for you. I couldn't even make it for myself, YHVH had to make it for me:. So come back next time as we discuss another disease in the next parasha. It sounds like we are going through a medical book doesn't it:? It is in a way, YHVH'S spiritual medical book! Shalom
